Why PolyPro?

Whether you're paddling solo or linking up with friends, your gear should work as hard as you do. That’s why we chose polypropylene: for its strength, resilience, and comfort in every adventure.

Why We Chose Polypropylene for Our Paddleboard Straps

At Sunlit Outdoor Supply, every product we create is rooted in thoughtful design, hands-on testing, and a commitment to real-world performance. When it came time to choose the right material for our paddleboard straps, we explored several options, including thick polyurethane webbing, polyester blends, and nylon. Each had its merits—but ultimately, polypropylene emerged as the clear winner.

Durability Meets Lightweight Performance

Polypropylene webbing offers an ideal balance of strength and weight. Paddleboarders need gear that performs well on the water without adding unnecessary bulk or drag. Compared to alternatives like nylon, polypropylene is significantly lighter while still providing impressive tensile strength. This means you get a secure hold without sacrificing portability or ease of handling.

Water Resistance That Works With You

One of polypropylene’s biggest advantages is its natural resistance to water. It doesn’t absorb moisture like cotton or nylon, which helps prevent stretching, mildew, and degradation over time. For a strap that’s routinely dunked, splashed, and exposed to sun-drenched riverbanks, this feature isn’t just nice to have—it’s essential.

UV Resilience for Arizona Sun

We’re based in Arizona, where gear takes a beating from relentless UV exposure. Polypropylene has excellent resistance to fading and breakdown from sunlight, making it a smart choice for outdoor gear. While other materials may stiffen or degrade under the sun, polypropylene remains flexible and functional.

Comfort and Function

During prototyping, we considered thick polyurethane webbing, which had a satisfying grip and rugged feel, but it proved difficult to sew with standard equipment and added too much stiffness for our design. Polypropylene allowed us to maintain a soft, flexible feel that still holds firm under pressure—perfect for easy handling, adjustability, and reliable performance out on the water.
